Home automation for Australian homes & small businesses

If you own a home, run an Airbnb, or manage a cafe or shop, lighting scenes, climate control, and smart sensors can make your space more comfortable, save energy, and look after itself when you are not there. But most smart home setups end up as a drawer full of gadgets that don't talk to each other, apps no one opens, and lights that only work when the Wi-Fi behaves.

iWizz designs and installs home automation for Australian homes and small businesses. We set up smart lighting, scenes, sensors, climate control, and voice or app control — systems that actually work, stay working, and your household or team can operate without a tech degree.

What we set up

  • Smart lighting: Philips Hue, Lutron-compatible dimmers, and Matter-friendly lights — scenes for different times of day, moods, or events. Control via app, voice, or simple switches.
  • Scenes and schedules: "Morning" lights the kitchen and hallway at sunrise, "Away" turns everything off and locks up, "Movie" dims the lounge and closes the blinds — one tap or voice command.
  • Occupancy and sensors: Lights that turn on when you walk in and off when you leave — hallways, bathrooms, storerooms, and outdoor areas.
  • Climate control: Smart thermostats, zone heating and cooling, and automated vents — integrated with your scenes and schedules.
  • Locks and cameras: High-level integration for door locks, video doorbells, and cameras — control who gets in and see what is happening from your phone.
  • Voice and dashboards: Optional Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa voice control, plus wall-mounted or tablet dashboards for simple one-touch operation.

Who it's for

iWizz home automation works for:

  • Homeowners: Automate the lighting, climate, and security in your house — make life easier and cut energy waste.
  • Airbnb and short-stay hosts: Automated check-in and check-out, remote lock control, and lighting schedules so your property looks after itself between guests.
  • Cafes and hospitality: Lighting moods for morning service, lunch, evening, and after-hours — plus climate control that adjusts for crowd size and time of day.
  • Retail and shops: Automated store lighting, window displays that turn on at dusk, and climate control that saves energy when the shop is closed.
  • Clinics and consulting rooms: Calm lighting scenes for patient comfort, automated after-hours lockup, and climate control for waiting rooms.

What we do

iWizz handles the full home automation lifecycle:

  1. Design: We map your space, work out what you want automated, and recommend the right hardware and control platforms for the job.
  2. Setup and integration: We install the hubs, configure the devices, integrate with your existing Wi-Fi or mesh network, and wire up the scenes and schedules.
  3. Training: We show you and your household or team how to use it — what voice commands work, how to create your own scenes, and how to troubleshoot when something stops responding.
  4. Maintenance: We come back if something breaks, needs updating, or you want to add more devices down the track.

What we prefer

We prefer reliable, maintainable setups over gadget sprawl:

  • Matter-friendly where sensible: Matter is the new cross-platform smart home standard — we prefer devices that support it so you are not locked into one vendor forever.
  • Proven platforms: Philips Hue for lighting, Ecobee or Nest for climate, Ring or Ubiquiti for cameras and doorbells — brands that stay updated and supported.
  • Simple controls: Voice is great when it works, but we always build in physical switches or dashboards so the system does not collapse when the internet drops.
  • Integration, not islands: One hub or platform that controls everything, not six separate apps for six separate brands.

What we do NOT do

We do not:

  • Claim to be licensed electricians: We design and configure smart home software, hubs, and network-connected devices. If your job needs mains electrical work — wiring, switchboards, or hardwired installations — we coordinate with licensed electricians to handle that safely and legally.
  • Sell smart home gadgets retail: We are not a smart home store. We recommend and install what works for your job, source it at trade or retail prices, and focus on integration and setup — not flogging you the latest gadget you will never use.
  • Build whole-home automation for mansions: If you need a Crestron or Control4 system with 50 zones, multi-room audio, and motorised everything, hire a dedicated home automation installer. We work with homes and small businesses that want smart control without the mansion price tag.

Scope and pricing

Home automation pricing depends on what you want automated, how big the space is, and what devices you already have:

  • Small starter setup: Smart lighting in 3–5 rooms, one hub, app and voice control — typically $1,500–$3,000 including hardware and setup.
  • Whole-home or small business: Lighting throughout, climate control, sensors, and scenes — typically $4,000–$8,000 depending on property size and complexity.
  • Advanced integration: Multi-zone lighting, climate, locks, cameras, and custom dashboards — quoted per job.

Prices include hardware (hubs, lights, sensors, switches), installation, configuration, and training. Electrical work (if required) quoted separately and handled by licensed electricians.

Real examples

  • Prahran townhouse: Philips Hue lighting in living, dining, bedrooms, and outdoor areas — scenes for "Morning", "Evening", and "Away" controlled via Google Assistant and wall-mounted tablet.
  • St Kilda Airbnb: Smart locks with guest access codes, automated lighting schedules, and remote climate control so the host can prep the property from anywhere.
  • Cafe in Kyneton: Automated lighting scenes for morning service, lunch, and evening — plus motion sensors for the kitchen and storeroom so lights don't stay on all night.
  • Retail shop Melbourne: Automated window display lighting that turns on at dusk and off at dawn, plus climate control that ramps down after closing to save energy.

Electrical work and compliance

iWizz is not a licensed electrical contractor. We design and configure smart home systems — software, hubs, network devices, and plug-in hardware.

If your job requires mains electrical work — running new wiring, installing hardwired switches, or modifying switchboards — we coordinate with licensed electricians to handle that work safely and in compliance with Australian electrical standards.

For most smart home setups, no electrical work is needed — we use wireless devices, plug-in hubs, and smart bulbs or switches that replace existing fittings.

Technology we use

We work with:

  • Lighting: Philips Hue, LIFX, Lutron Caseta, Matter-compatible bulbs and switches
  • Hubs and platforms: Home Assistant, SmartThings, Apple HomeKit, Google Home
  • Climate: Ecobee, Nest, Sensibo (for split-system air conditioning)
  • Security: Ring, Ubiquiti Protect, Yale smart locks
  • Voice: Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri (via HomeKit)
  • Network: UniFi Wi-Fi, mesh networks (Google Nest Wifi, Eero), wired Ethernet where needed
