New Apple TV 4K & MacBook Pro: Australian Prices

31 October 2026

Real reviews coming soon. This is a launch-day guide built from Apple's official Australian announcements and specs, not a hands-on review. We haven't had our hands on either yet. Once we've set them up ourselves, we'll add our real-world impressions here.

TL;DR

  • Apple TV 4K (4th generation): A$449 RRP inc. GST. A19 chip, hands-free Siri AI through three built-in microphones, Wi-Fi 7, 128GB standard, and a Siri Remote you can find with Find My. Pre-orders are open now and it's in stores Friday 13 November 2026.
  • 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6: from A$3,199 RRP inc. GST. New M6 chip (12-core CPU, 12-core GPU), Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and up to 24 hours of battery life. In stores Friday 6 November 2026.
  • MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display (14- and 16-inch): from A$4,599 and A$5,499 RRP inc. GST. Apple's first touchscreen Mac, with a tandem OLED display, the Dynamic Island, M5 Pro or M5 Max, and a thinner, lighter design. In stores Friday 6 November 2026.
  • No new MacBook Air in this round. The existing MacBook Air and MacBook Neo carry on.
  • My early take: the new Apple TV makes the most sense if you're building out an Apple smart home or want HomePod surround sound. The new MacBook Pros are serious machines with serious prices, so don't upgrade a Mac that's working fine just because it's new.

What did Apple just announce?

Apple's October announcements came in two waves. On 14 October 2026 (Australian time), the home products landed: Apple HomeView, HomePod mini 2 and the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K. I covered all three in our October home launch round-up, and HomePod mini 2 got its own guide when it went on sale yesterday.

Then on 28 and 29 October, Apple refreshed its laptops with two new MacBook Pro lines:

  • 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6, the entry MacBook Pro with Apple's new M6 chip.
  • MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display in 14- and 16-inch sizes. It's the first Mac with a touchscreen, and it runs M5 Pro or M5 Max.

Apple also announced a new iMac with M6 the same week, but that's a desktop, so it's not covered here. There's no new MacBook Air or MacBook Neo in this round.

This post pulls the Apple TV and the laptops together in one place, with Australian prices and dates.

What's new in the Apple TV 4K?

From the outside, it looks like the last model. The changes are inside and in the remote. According to Apple:

  • Siri AI, hands-free. Three far-field microphones are built into the box, so you can say "Siri" or "Hey Siri" from the couch without picking up the remote. Apple says echo cancellation picks out your voice even while a show is playing. Siri AI is available in Australia in English at launch, as a beta in tvOS 27.2.
  • A19 chip. Apple quotes up to 50% faster CPU and up to 2x faster graphics than the previous generation, plus a dedicated AV1 decoder for more efficient streaming.
  • A remote you can actually find. The new Siri Remote adds Find My with Precision Finding and can play a sound. Precision Finding needs a recent iPhone (iPhone 17 or later, excluding iPhone 17e, iPhone Air or iPhone Duo). The remote is also sold separately and works with older Apple TVs.
  • Four-speaker HomePod surround. Pair four HomePod mini 2 or HomePod (2nd generation) speakers, in matching front and rear pairs, and Apple says they work out where they sit in the room and calibrate themselves. Original HomePod minis don't qualify.
  • A smarter home hub. It still runs your Apple Home automations, guest mode and HomeKit Secure Video. Camera recordings now get AI-written activity descriptions and summarised notifications (this needs an eligible iCloud+ plan). With a compatible doorbell, you can see who's at the door on the TV.
  • Better connectivity. Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thread, HDMI 2.1 and Gigabit Ethernet on every unit.
  • 128GB as standard. There's just one model now.

One thing that's easy to miss is that Siri AI also comes to the Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) and later as a beta, so you don't need the new box just to try the new Siri. The new box adds the hands-free mics, the speed bump and the HomePod surround setup.

There's some fine print. Siri AI needs the home owner in the Home app to have an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad with Siri AI turned on, and Apple says some server-side features have daily usage limits.

How much is the new Apple TV 4K in Australia?

A$449 RRP inc. GST. That's a big jump from the A$219 and A$249 the 2022 models launched at. In return you get 128GB, Ethernet and Thread as standard, plus the mics and the faster chip. Apple's Australian store also lists 3 months of the Apple TV service free with purchase (check the terms at checkout).

In the box: the Apple TV 4K, the Siri Remote (4th generation) and a power cord. HDMI and USB-C cables are sold separately.

What's new in the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6?

This is the "standard" MacBook Pro. It looks the same as last year's model, with a new chip and faster wireless inside. Apple says:

  • M6 chip: a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, two more of each than M5. Apple quotes up to 30% faster graphics and up to 25% faster AI workloads than M5, and up to 11x faster graphics than an M1 MacBook Pro.
  • Memory and storage: 16GB of unified memory standard (up to 32GB). The base model in Apple's Australian store has 1TB of storage.
  • Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.
  • Up to 24 hours of battery life, which Apple calls the longest ever in a Mac. It can fast-charge to 50% in about 30 minutes with a 96W or higher adapter.
  • Same display and ports as before: a 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR display (nano-texture optional), three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3 and a headphone jack.
  • Colours: space black and silver.

The headline for Australian buyers is the price. It starts at A$3,199, compared with the A$2,499 that the M5 model launched at in October 2025. Local outlets including GadgetGuy and Pickr point to the global memory shortage pushing up prices across the industry.

What's the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display?

This is the big one: Apple's first touchscreen Mac. It's an all-new MacBook Pro in 14-inch (14.2-inch screen) and 16-inch (16.3-inch screen) sizes, and it sits above the M6 model. Apple says:

  • PROLED XDR display: tandem OLED with up to 2000 nits peak brightness (HDR and SDR), a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, 120Hz ProMotion, and both P3 and Adobe RGB colour. The nano-texture option is now etched into the glass.
  • Touch, for the first time on a Mac. You can swipe, pinch to zoom, drag and drop, and play instruments on screen in Logic Pro, alongside the keyboard and trackpad. Apple says many existing apps work with touch straight away, and it names apps like Microsoft Office, Canva, Zoom, Lightroom and DaVinci Resolve as adding touch support (Apple says those third-party apps arrive "later this year").
  • The Dynamic Island comes to the Mac, as the home for Spotlight, Live Activities and Siri AI.
  • M5 Pro or M5 Max, with up to 128GB of memory and now up to 16TB of storage.
  • Thinner and lighter. Apple quotes 3 pounds (about 1.36 kg) for the 14-inch and 4 pounds (about 1.81 kg) for the 16-inch.
  • Ports: three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, SDXC, MagSafe and a headphone jack. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Up to 24 hours of battery life.

The existing mini-LED MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max are still listed in Apple's Australian store alongside the new ones.

Should you upgrade?

Based on what Apple has announced (not hands-on testing yet), here's how I'd think about it.

Apple TV 4K

  • Probably wait if you have a 2nd or 3rd-generation Apple TV 4K that's working well. You'll get Siri AI as a beta anyway.
  • Upgrade if you want hands-free Siri in the lounge room, or you're setting up four HomePod mini 2 or HomePod speakers for surround sound. The new box is required for that.
  • Buy one if you're building an Apple smart home and want a solid, wired home hub. Ethernet and Thread are now standard.
  • Check your phone. Many Siri AI features lean on a recent Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad.

MacBook Pro

  • Coming from an Intel Mac or an M1? This is the upgrade window Apple is pitching. It quotes big jumps in speed and up to 4 extra hours of battery over an M1 MacBook Pro (up to 14 over Intel). The M6 model is the sensible pick for most business users.
  • On an M4 or M5 MacBook Pro? There's no rush. The M6 is a step up, not a leap, and it costs more than last year's launch price.
  • Creative pros (photo, video, colour, 3D, music) are who the PROLED XDR model is built for. The display and touch are the reasons to pay the premium, and I'd want to see them in person before spending A$4,599 or more.
  • Don't need Pro power? The current MacBook Air is still in the range, and for email, web, Office and accounting work it may be all you need.

FAQ

Is the new Apple TV 4K worth A$449 in Australia?
If you want hands-free Siri AI or four-speaker HomePod surround, it's the only Apple TV that does it. If you just stream Netflix and your current Apple TV 4K works well, Siri AI is coming to the 2nd-generation model and later as a beta, so there's less reason to rush.

Does the new MacBook Pro have a touchscreen?
Only the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display (14- and 16-inch, from A$4,599). The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 (from A$3,199) does not have a touchscreen.

Is there a new MacBook Air?
Not in this round. Apple's October 2026 laptop announcements were the two MacBook Pro lines.

When do the new MacBook Pros arrive in Australia?
Pre-orders opened on 29 October 2026, and they're in stores and arriving to customers from Friday 6 November 2026.

Will my old Siri Remote work with the new Apple TV 4K?
Apple says the new Siri Remote also works with older Apple TVs, and Find My works on the 2nd-generation Siri Remote and later. Precision Finding and playing a sound are exclusive to the new remote.

Real reviews coming soon. We'll update this post with hands-on impressions once we've had the new Apple TV 4K and MacBook Pros set up in the studio.
