ChatGPT ads · August 2026

When the ad opens a conversation

For twenty years a paid click meant one thing: a landing page. OpenAI is testing something else inside ChatGPT Ads Manager — an Agent campaign. The click does not have to send someone to your site. It can open a business-specific chat that already knows your hours, your stock, and how you take a booking.

That is agentic search advertising. We help Australian SMEs get ready for it — alongside the Google Ads, Instagram, and Facebook work that still pays the rent.

What ChatGPT is actually shipping

Self-serve ads in ChatGPT have been rolling out through 2026 (Ads Manager at ads.openai.com). Standard campaigns still look familiar: a labelled placement under an answer, a click, a URL.

The new type, spotted in Ads Manager in July 2026, is different. OpenAI crawls your site, you add instructions, a product feed, live data via MCP tools, and a lead form. The campaign points at that agent. The person stays in the chat. They can ask “do you have a table Friday”, “is the navy jacket in store”, or “what does a consult cost” — and get an answer built from your business, not a generic landing page.

It is in limited testing. Pricing and a full AU rollout are not locked. Treat it as real enough to prepare, not as a channel you throw the whole budget at tomorrow.

Why a cafe, clinic, or fashion floor should care

People already ask ChatGPT where to eat, who to see, and what to buy. If the answer includes an ad that can book or qualify on the spot, the old “hope they fill the form” funnel gets shorter.

  • Hospitality — hours, menus, waitlists, without a clunky booking widget.
  • Clinics and health — what you treat, how to book, what to bring — with a human still owning clinical decisions.
  • Fashion and retail — size, stock, pickup — if the feed is honest.
  • Sports clubs and swim schools — term dates, trial lessons, membership.

Do not switch off Google or Meta

Google Ads still owns intent on Search. Instagram and Facebook still fill a Friday night and a sale week. ChatGPT ads sit next to that, they do not replace it. A sane mix for an SME:

  • Google Ads for “near me” and high-intent terms
  • Instagram and Facebook for creative and remarketing
  • A clean site plus schema so both Google and OpenAI’s crawlers (including ads bots) can read you
  • An agent brief ready: FAQs, booking rules, what the bot must never promise

How we help

iWizz already runs Google Ads and Meta for operators across Australia. For agentic search we set the profile, the feed, the guardrails, and the hand-off to a human. Same partner as the website — because the agent is only as good as the facts on the site.

If you want a plan that covers search, social, and ChatGPT — not three agencies and a slide deck — call 0417 518 940.
